Signed by Cmdr. Hal Buell, USN, who was awarded a Silver Star for this action. The Shirakumo was a Fubuki Class Destroyer, is attacked by Cmdr. Buell, flying a Douglas SBD Dauntless dive bomber, flying out of Henderson Field on Guadalcanal. Here, he attacks and critically damages the Shirakumo, which is trying to land infantry reinforcements on Guadalcanal.
